About

I’m a New Zealand born artist and writer now living with my family in Sydney. I hold a Master’s Medegree with First Class Honors in painting from the Elam School of Fine Arts in Auckland, New Zealand and my artwork hangs in homes and offices around the world. My three dimensional work is also featured in several key publications on New Zealand art.

Thanks to travel-hungry genes, I’ve lived in Mexico City, Vienna, London and New York.

On the writing side, I’ve been published in Cosmos Online, Andromeda Spaceways and the NSW Writer’s Centre Magazine as well as numerous other online publications.

In order to support my art and writing, I’ve had a breathless number of jobs including art teacher, market researcher, fundraising manager, librarian, consular public affairs officer and real estate receptionist.

These days, when I’m not teaching, painting, writing, gardening, chauffeuring or nagging teenagers, I’m probably in a car somewhere trying to compress space-time in Sydney traffic jams.

  1. Hello Ingrid
I am wanting to find out some information on your painting/print “Essence of Auckland” Is this still available as a print, is it a limited edition print? Are the prints lithographic? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks very much

  2. Hello Ingrid.
My name is Christine and live in Christchurch NZ. My sister has a print of yours that she has had for a very long time. I have always admired it. After the earth quakes, that damaged many of our families homes, the print Akaroa Tea View was wrapped in bubble wrap and stored. Recently she has brought it out of hiding and once again I set my eyes on it. I now have it at home as she was going to put it in a garage sale to raise funds for her niece to go to Europe. On looking at Google to find information on the print I saw some really lovely prints that you have done and some for sale, but not mine. I was wondering if maybe you could give me some information about it and if you knew what it would cost to purchase now.
    Kind Regards,

  3. Hi Ingrid

My name is Kerry Boyde-Preece and I’m an educator offering teachers professional development in learning in the 21st century. I’m based in the far north of New Zealand and happen to work with a lovely teacher Debbie Lockett, who is based at Taipa Area School. Debbie has a class of year 3 and 4 students. Debbie is an excellent teacher and recently introduced her students to your artwork. They went on to make their own Ingrid Banwell inspired creations. These have been published on their class blog. I’ve given you a link to their blog and if you could possibly leave a comment for them I’m sure they would be delighted.
The class has also been learning how to use Google Meet so if you wanted to pop in and say hi I’m happy to help set that up. They are a delightful group of students and I’m sure would love to meet you 🙂

    Kind regards

    Kerry Boyde-Preece
