Art is science made clear.

Jean Cocteau.

Nothing exists until or unless it is observed. An artist is making something exist by observing it. And his hope for other people is that they will also make it exist by observing it.

William S. Burroughs.

After I saw Sydney journalist Peter FitzSimons in the canteen at my children’s school, I decided I wanted to paint his portrait for the Sydney Archibald prize. I’m grateful he graciously agreed.

Note the detail below of the food pyramid, which I had as much fun with as Peter’s face.

    1. I’m delighted you like the image. Are you in possession of the print or the original? Lucky you if it’s the original! The scene isn’t taken from a specific spot, but, like all my images is a composite of perspectives and landmarks. Having said that, the view is something one might see from high spots in more established suburbs like Te Aro, Newtown or Mt Cook.

  1. My wife and I both loved the book about the girl who posed for “The Garden of Earthly Delights”.
    thanks please, JJ and sa
